Value Stream Mapping (VSM)

Want Shorter Lead Times for Faster Customer Response?

Improve Your Manufacturing and Business Processes with a 4-Day VSM Workshop

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) will help you reduce your lead times so you can provide faster turnaround for your customers!

We know you have limited resources - VSM is absolutely the best technique to help you “see” the process and its opportunities to improve, so that you know where to focus your improvement efforts first.

Our workshop will teach your team how to create its own Value Stream Maps and Action Plans for measurable improvement that your customers will notice!

Day 1: Map the Current State

The Workshop is structured in a “Learn-See-Do” format.

Learn: We will kickoff the first day with some training.

See: Then we will “walk” the process and collect data.

Do: We will return to the Team Room and start mapping the Current State Value Stream Map. This exercise normally takes us into the second day.

Day 2 & 3: How Can We Improve the Current State, and What Will the Future Look Like?

We will finish the Current State Value Stream Map (CSVSM), and calculate Total Process Lead Time, and the % Value Added Time. We will share the map with key stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to ensure we haven’t missed anything. Once everyone reaches consensus that the CSVSM is correct, it’s time to get creative and think about our future!

Learn: Together, the whole team will learn about lean principles and how to spot problem areas/ opportunities for improvement that exist in the Current State.

See: We will identify improvements and “visualize” them on the map with Kaizen Clouds.

Do: From here, we will envision the “Ideal State” - what would happen if we could create a process with zero waste? We then “back off” the ideal state and think about what we could achieve in 12-18 months. We will map our Future State Value Stream Map (FSVSM). Next we will recalculate the Total Process Lead Time and % Value Added Time. Our opportunities for change will be identified with Kaizen Bursts.

Day 4: Create the Kaizen Roadmap & Report Out

Learn: Towards the end of Day 3 or start of Day 4, we will compare the Current State and Future State maps, review the Kaizen Bursts, and will learn together how to create flow “loops” (groups of processes and projects that taken together, will create a logical progression of improvement).

Do: We will prioritize the Kaizen Bursts by which ones need to be completed first. We will create a Kaizen Roadmap that includes a description of the project, the expected outcomes, assign it to a project champion, and propose timing for completion.

Show: Finally, to close the event, the Team will report out to key stakeholders, including a presentation of the Current State Value Stream Map, the Future State Value Stream Map, and the Kaizen Roadmap to ensure buy-in for the Kaizen Roadmap activities.
